The look on my son's face when he saw an airplane up close for the first time - priceless indeed. It was a mix of fear, excitement and anticipation... not knowing what to expect. He wanted to take it all in - pointing out the wings, wheels and the "highway" (read: runway). He'd only ever seen airplanes up high in the sky before. This was a completely different experience.
Right before takeoff, the airplane stopped moving for a brief moment, then sped up to speeds I could only dream of driving - then, like magic, we lifted off the ground into the air. Moving through the clouds was a bit scary. You couldn't really see anything around you - like being in a whiteout blizzard. Next comes the blue sky - the neverending blue sky that looks like blue stained glass.
I began to think about how this applies to everyday situations. We rarely don't take a minute to pause before rushing head-first into a situation which, more often than not, isn't all that great for us. What if we did take that minute to pause and breathe? What if we took more than a minute? Would we make better decisions for ourselves?
There's always going to be 'clouds' in our lives - times where we can't see a way out or it seems hopeless. Just as the airplane kept rising through the clouds, we can overcome anything that comes in our way. It's never permanent. Those clouds need to be there to teach us something or shield us from the sun.
What struck me the most about the blue sky was that it was whatever I wanted it to be. When you see a clear blue sky, what emotion comes up for you? There's no right or wrong answer here. I can only describe that feeling as neutral... maybe that's not the right word but it just feels like I'm returning to centre.
It's okay to find your own version of peace or your own centre. Pause for a moment and discover what that means for you.
How can we as humans begin to know how the Universe works? We claim to know the exact steps to manifest our desires. It’s like saying there’s only one type of fish in the sea. We’re only human yet we’ve turned the Universe into a multi billion dollar pyramid scheme. Spirituality is a hot commodity. You can dabble in it or go full out wearing robes, chanting cultural appropriation-esque chants and paying thousands for the spiritual retreat that’s the latest game-changer.
Stop for a minute and think about just how effing big the Universe is. Can you think of anything beyond our solar system? Galaxy? Keep going. We humans have only been able to come up with the Observable Universe, which is as far as we can see. There’s no telling what lies beyond what we can see.
All the Universe is seemingly good for is an ATM in the sky. We’re willing to empty our pockets for the promise of more money. Sound familiar? That’s because it’s been done before by those disgraced televangelists. Send me millions and you’ll enter heaven & be prosperous. Pay me thousands and I’ll show you how to manifest your materialistic fantasies. If you don’t, you’re wrong and the Universe is going to spank you for not obeying its secrets & laws.
When my son was born, everyone around me turned into an expert. I honestly didn’t know some days what to do. Then it hit me. The Universe told me to listen my gut. So I did. My gut said, you’ll figure out what’s best for you and your baby. So we did! I observed my son’s cries, eating and sleeping patterns, likes and dislikes. I figured out a routine that works for the both of us. That routine is specific to our needs. It’s not designed to work for someone else. It’s why I tell new mummies to a) don’t listen to anyone’s advice not even mine and b) listen to your baby.
The Universe is infinite. There are infinite ways to get what we want. How can we begin to understand exactly how the Universe works or where we stand in it and alongside it?
You’ve got to take this journey for yourself. Do learn from the mystics and sages. Your gut will tell you if what they’re saying is true for you. Take a little knowledge from them all and create your own opinions and insights. Do what works for you.
It's easy to think that we're all alone in the world... that no one gives a rolling donut about us. Ask yourself - Self, is this ACTUALLY true? There's not a living soul out of the 7.6 billion people on the planet who isn't connected to you in some way, shape or form?
Come on, now. If you were to vanish from existence right this second, you'd affect a lot more lives than you think.
So now that we've over the fact that we're not alone in the world, let's chat for a second about who you're surrounded with. Who's in your inner circle? Who is that person or people that you go to when you're bursting with great news or you just have to share a picture of those cute shoes on sale at the mall? Your people are a direct reflection of what's happening now in your life.
Think of your people like mirrors (if you have the Justin Timberlake song in your head right now then we're on the right path) - they'll show you how you feel about yourself, your circumstances and where you want to go.
Say your peeps are your work colleagues & every time you get together, you whine about how silly work is and how you can't believe Sally the Sales Ninny said that to you yesterday (the nerve of that woman!). Sure, it's fun to joke around and laughing is good for you. Consider this - you're surrounding yourself with crap all the time. Does anyone ever talk about how to make work better or is the theme of the day a BMW (b*tch, moan and whine) session? What's that doing for you? Is it elevating you? Does it make you want to run a mile in the wrong direction?
Maybe you've never thought about if your life could be different. What if you didn't have to whine all the time to feel connected with others; what if you could talk about something that's been weighing heavily on your soul and not feel like you're missing some sandwiches from your picnic basket. Find people that you not only love (and not just romantic love... there's ALL kinds of love) but share something in common with.
Take a moment to ask yourself where it is you want to be - spiritually, mentally, emotionally, physically & even financially. Where do you stand right now? Who's standing with you in this space? Don't be afraid to walk away from relationships that don't reflect where you are and where you want to go. Remember, everything in life is temporary. Choose to surround yourself with the right people for YOU.
Lately I've been reflecting on my business and where I want it to go. Who do I want to serve? What result do I want my clients to receive? Make no mistake - I am a life coach and I'm in it for the long haul.
Yet I can't help but feel like there's MORE to my work. For the last few months, I've been helping clients leave the corporate world. I know that world is stagnant; dark; foreboding and most of all, resistant to change despite the copious amounts of motivational speakers, consultancies and general do-gooders it has at its disposal.
I've been peeling back layers of this work I'm doing and now I want to share with you what I've discovered.
As a life coach, I still want to get people out of the corporate world. I do, however, want to help people through a journey of self-discovery. Getting out of the corporate world is just a step... a mask, even for how I truly want to be of service.
Why was I hiding behind this mask? Fear. I was afraid of what a select few might think if I started to talk publicly about the real work I want to do. Coaching isn't just about selling a package that gets you results (think of those sketchy 6-figures-in-6-nanoseconds-type 'coaches'). Coaching is about having conversations that help you access and discover your inner world. Your inner world is an infinite source of wisdom, strength and courage that may or may not be lying dormant inside you right now.
I'm not afraid anymore. This is the work I want to do. I am a life coach and I'm still a Change Strategist. I believe, with all of my being, that if we discover this inner world within us, we can use that knowledge and energy to create a new world instead of fighting within our current circumstances. There's a massive spiritual/personal development movement out there right now. We're all looking for answers. We want to know that we're not alone and we're searching for meaning. We've got to do more with just finding the answer. We've got to stop fighting for a space in this current world. We can be enlightened; emboldened; ready to make a difference - we just have to direct those energies into creating and not fighting.
Clearly the current powers that be want things to stay the same. I say, let them eat their genetically modified cake. Why are we battling this ideaology so bloody hard (literally)? We're expending stupid amounts of energy for what... scraps? No, thank you. Let them have what they want.
People, it's time to lay down our weapons. Yes, let's continue having difficult conversations. Instead of asking, where do I belong in the patriarchy, ask, how can I create a matriarchal society?
As a life coach, I want to not just help people discover their inner world, I want to incite that same person to start creating a new world - a world where women don't have to fight for a space - there's plenty to take up. A world where men aren't subjected to toxic masculinity norms.
This world used to exist in ancient times. Indigenous cultures around the world were exactly like this until a small group of men decided no more of that. And it's been that way ever since.
You're going to start seeing changes to my website and coaching packages over the next little while that'll reflect my new direction. I'm still going to help you navigate & escape the corporate world. I'm also going to share insights into what it means to tap into your inner world. Inner work is key. I'm still discovering my own inner world - this is what's led me to this change of heart.
Watch this space - extraordinary things are in store for you!
